The Huffines Family invites you to explore the Huffines History Collection, a remarkable assembly of artifacts showcasing the courage, resilience, and legacy of Texas history.
Hosted at the Alamo and debuting May 2024, a small portion of the collection will be open for public viewing. Spanning over two centuries, the Huffines History Collection features an extraordinary array of military weapons, uniforms, equestrian gear, personal artifacts, and rare printed materials dating back to 1810—bringing Texas history to life like never before.
The Huffines History Collection is an exclusive Texas History collection, encompassing military weapons, uniforms, equestrian items, personal gear, and printed material.Â
The collection largely consists of artifacts used by, collected by, or given to Samuel Houston (1793 - 1863). Sam Houston was the Commanding General of the victorious Texas Army at the Battle of San Jacinto, the first president of the Republic of Texas, Texas's first U.S. Senator, and the Governor of Texas from 1859 to 1961.
The collection also includes artifacts owned or used by General Santa Anna, who served as president of Mexico eleven times. He was a prominent military leader known for thwarting Spain's attempt to recapture Mexico. In 1835, he was sent to suppress the Texian rebellion. Under Sam Houston, he was captured by Texian forces at the Battle of San Jacinto, where he signed the Treaties of Velasco, effectively recognizing Texas's independence.
